A Ranch-Inspired Middle School Designed for Student Connectivity, Collaboration, and Learning.
The design of the new 220,000-square-foot Gene Pike Middle School blends academic learning, open student collaboration, and an innovative media center into a cohesive, future-ready environment. Built on newly acquired land directly south of the existing campus, formerly known as One Horse Farm, the school’s design concept draws inspiration from the ranch or farmhouse. A defining feature—the ranch house “front porch”—is expressed through a welcoming public courtyard that provides direct access to administration, the media center, cafeteria, and athletics. A more private and secure outdoor “side porch” courtyard supports student learning and collaboration, positioned between two academic houses with direct connection to the media center.
At the heart of the school, the open and interactive media center serves as the academic hub, seamlessly connecting each of the school’s academic wings. This multi-level space allows students to collaborate, research, socialize, and move fluidly throughout the day while remaining visually connected to and supervised by surrounding academic houses. This innovative planning approach reimagines the traditional school library, replacing a closed and quiet model with a dynamic, engaging, and flexible hub that fosters purpose-driven and collaborative learning.
“The effort Glenn|Partners makes to work with our staff and students to understand each project so they have every detail needed to make the best learning environment possible is inconceivable. Along with the effort their team puts into every project, to have that personal touch is exceptional and makes our schools stand out. ”
