The Underhill Library and Community Building serves the entire campus and includes a lower competition and multi-functional Gymnasium, Athletic Support Spaces, Motor Skill Development Labs, Community Center, and a Lower School Library. The school’s gymnasium was located near the front entry for ease of public accessibility, however, the size and scale of the gymnasium would have disrupted the scale and intimacy of the existing campus architecture, therefore the design team creatively located the main gym floor on a lower level. This planning decision successfully integrates the large program block within the overall campus design while also allowing street-level windows to be located around the top half of the interior athletic space facilitating daylight to fill this highly used space.

Completed while at Perkins+Will, Patrick Glenn served as the Managing Principal, Educational Programmer and Educational Planner while Briar Glenn served as the Project Designer and Project Architect working on all stages of schematic design through construction.
