Garland ISD Daugherty Elementary School
The new Daugherty Elementary School is situated on an existing school campus and will replace the existing facility. The K-5 school will double the student capacity from 400 to 800 students and is the first two story elementary school for Garland ISD. The new building includes core classrooms, administration space, library, computer lab, music, art, multi-purpose rooms, special education, kitchen, cafeteria with a stage, gymnasium, gym support space and a central courtyard.
The central courtyard will serve as an outdoor classroom and includes a rock garden, shadow wall, rain water cistern and sensory areas to promote student learning. Sustainable features are incorporated into the design and support the school’s goal to utilize the building as a teaching tool for their students and community. These features include a small zone of geothermal HVAC, solar panels and a wind turbine.
Completed while at Corgan, Briar Glenn served as the Architect and Designer working on all stages of schematic design through construction.
