Honoring Legacy, Igniting the Future with Student-Centered Learning and Performing Arts.
The East Campus Academic Building and Performing Arts Center serves as a vibrant hub for learning, creativity, and collaboration. It seamlessly unites innovative core academics with flexible student collaboration spaces, fostering an environment where ideas can flourish. The new addition also houses state-of-the-art facilities for visual and performing arts, robotics, audio/visual and broadcast programs, as well as well-equipped core classrooms designed to support diverse learning styles. Students can explore their talents in music and drama, culminating in performances in a stunning 1,000-seat theater at the heart of the building. Every aspect of the new facility is thoughtfully designed to inspire curiosity, encourage experimentation, and provide opportunities for students to engage deeply with both academic and creative pursuits.
The site connects the West and East campuses through a series of connected courtyards and an elevated landscaped plaza. The design concept follows a layered architectural approach. The outer shell reflects campus traditions with masonry and cast-stone, while interior layers transition to lighter, contemporary materials leading to student-centered learning and performance spaces. Together, these layers form a vibrant, connected hub for academic, artistic, and community life.
Through the main gateway, visitors encounter the Performing Arts Center integrated within the academic setting. Red vertical fins wrap the theater, creating an iconic arrival point. A grand cast-stone entry leads to the reception space, with a cascading stairway connecting to the balcony and rooftop terrace. Gallery areas throughout provide a sophisticated setting for events.
Inside the red shell lies a versatile 1,000-seat venue shaped by tiered acoustic clouds and flowing walls for theater, spoken word, and musical performances. The stage and service areas follow the campus’ sloping grades, keeping the theater’s profile low and echoing an outdoor amphitheater in the central courtyard. The theater includes 30 rigging line sets—six motorized for the orchestra shell and main drape—plus an eight-foot rigging pit and 50-foot fly loft. These features enhance production capacity and give students hands-on training. Beyond academics, the Performing Arts Center unites the Ursuline community for school-wide events and gatherings.
