Urban Park Elementary School
Urban Park Elementary School is a replacement Campus for the existing building that was originally built in the 1920’s as the Peacock Military Academy with two additional major additions. The 73,500sf replacement campus will provide the community of Southeast Dallas a superior, state of the art, educational facility built for the modern era while honoring the rich history. Taking cues from the name Urban Park, classrooms and active areas form a dense, lively program centered around the media center and outdoor collaboration space, which together represent the park. Upon entering the central spaces, their transparency and open nature invites discovery and introspection, contrasting the density surrounding them.
The new facility, designed for 650 students will occupy roughly 4 acres of the 10-acre site. Upon building completion, the students and staff will relocate to the new building while the existing building undergoes abatement and demolition. The project can then be completed with the new play areas, completed drive lanes and landscaping. This project requires the existing campus to operate during the construction of the new building.
